Overall Size & Design

Bunn BX Speed Brew design
Overall Scored of this feature100%

One of the things that stand out is how user-friendly it is. There’s just one simple on/off switch, which means you don’t have to deal with a bunch of confusing buttons or settings. Everything is laid out in a way that’s easy to understand, even if you’re half-awake in the morning.

When it comes to size, the Bunn 10 cup coffee maker is pretty substantial. Its dimensions are 7.1 inches in depth, 13.8 inches in width, and 14.3 inches in height. This isn’t the most compact coffee maker around. If you’re familiar with the Keurig K-Slim Single Serve Coffee Maker or the KOTLIE 4-in-1 Espresso Coffee Machine, you’ll notice that the Bunn is significantly larger. That’s mainly due to its large capacity, which is great if you brew a lot of coffee at once, but it might take up more counter space than you’d like.

Another thing to note is that the Bunn BX Speed Brew doesn’t come with a cup size adjustment tray, like the Ninja CM371 Hot & Iced XL Coffee Maker does. This feature on other models allows you to adjust the tray height depending on the size of your cup, which adds to the user-friendliness. Unfortunately, the Bunn lacks this feature, which might be a drawback if you’re looking for that level of convenience.

Water Capacity

Overall Scored of this feature100%

The BUNN Speed Brew is designed with a focus on speed and convenience, and its water capacity plays a big role in that. Inside the machine, there’s an internal commercial-grade stainless steel hot water tank. This tank is special because it keeps 70 ounces of water hot at all times. This means that whenever you’re ready to brew, the water is already hot and ready to go. All you need to do is flip the lid, and you can start brewing right away. No waiting around for the water to heat up—it’s a quick and efficient process.

When I compared this capacity with the Empstorm 12 Cup Programmable Drip Coffee Maker, I noticed that It has a water capacity of 60 ounces, which is equivalent to 1.8 liters. With that amount of water, it can brew 12 cups of coffee. In contrast, the BUNN BX Speed Brew uses 70 ounces of water but brews only 10 cups of coffee with it.

This difference might seem a bit surprising at first. You might wonder why the BUNN uses more water but makes fewer cups. The reason lies in the way the BUNN is designed to brew coffee. It prioritizes a faster brewing process, which requires more water to maintain the right temperature and pressure throughout the brewing cycle. This results in a rich and flavorful cup of coffee, even if it means using more water per cup.

How Much Time It Can Take to Make Coffee

Overall Scored of this feature100%

One of the standout features of this BUNN 10-Cup Coffee Brewer is just how fast it can make coffee. Have you ever imagined? You can brew 60 ounces of coffee in just a few minutes. Really? But It sounds almost unbelievable, right? But that’s exactly what this machine can do. Thanks to BUNN’s innovative technology, it can brew a full carafe of coffee one after another in just 4 minutes. That’s half the time it takes for most other coffee makers to do the same job. According to internal tests by BUNN, their Speed Brew coffee makers significantly outperform similar models in terms of brewing speed.

So, how does it manage to brew coffee so quickly? The secret lies in its design. The BUNN BX Speed Brew has an internal stainless steel hot water tank that holds water and keeps it at the perfect brewing temperature—200 degrees Fahrenheit—all the time. This means that when you’re ready to brew, the water is already hot, and the machine doesn’t need to spend any time heating it up. This constant readiness is what allows the BUNN to brew coffee so fast, saving you valuable time, especially during those rushed mornings.

Of course, keeping a tank of water hot 24/7 might make you wonder about the energy costs. I had the same concern when I first started using it. But surprisingly, it doesn’t have a huge impact on your electricity bill. The machine operates at very low power when it’s just maintaining the water temperature, so it’s more energy-efficient than you might think. However, one thing I did notice is that the BUNN BX Speed Brew doesn’t have an automatic shut-off feature like some other models do, such as the Gevi 12 Cup Programmable Drip Coffee Maker. This means you’ll need to remember to turn it off manually if you’re concerned about energy use.

For someone like me, who isn’t exactly a morning person and needs coffee quickly to start the day, this machine is a real lifesaver. It’s fast, efficient, and reliable. If you value speed in your coffee-making routine, this brew coffee maker is definitely worth considering.

How It can Brewing Your Coffee

Overall Scored of this feature100%

When it comes to brewing coffee, the method used can make a huge difference in the flavor and quality of your cup. One key aspect of brewing great-tasting coffee is ensuring that the coffee grounds stay afloat while still being fully covered in water throughout the brewing process. This balance allows the water to extract all the rich flavors and aromas from the coffee, resulting in a more satisfying cup.

The BUNN BX Speed Brew has a unique approach to this. Unlike many other coffee makers, it features a special Commercial-style multi-stream sprayhead design. This sprayhead is designed to evenly shower all the coffee grounds with water. Instead of just a single stream of water, it uses multiple streams that spread out across the entire coffee bed. This ensures that every bit of coffee is fully saturated, allowing for an even extraction of flavor.

Its multi-stream spray head doesn’t just wet the coffee grounds—it also helps to keep them afloat. As the water flows through, it gently stirs and mixes the grounds, ensuring they stay in motion. This movement is important because it prevents the grounds from settling at the bottom too quickly, which can lead to uneven brewing. By keeping the grounds afloat and continuously covered in water, the BUNN BX Speed Brew Classic 10-Cup Coffee Brewer maximizes the contact between water and coffee, leading to a more consistent and flavorful brew.

Coffee Taste

Overall Scored of this feature100%

To be honest, it's not going to win any awards for being the best-tasting coffee out there. I mean, if you're used to drinking coffee from a high-end machine like the Sincreative CM5700, you might be a bit disappointed. But, if you're familiar with other affordable coffee makers like Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal Coffee Maker on the market, you'll find that the Bunn BX Speed Brew holds its own pretty well.

In fact, I'd say it's one of the better ones in its class. The coffee it produces is good quality, considering its price point. Of course, "good quality" is subjective, and I'm sure some coffee connoisseurs might find fault with it. But for the average person, it's definitely drinkable.

I did some research and read through a bunch of user reviews to get a sense of what people are saying about the taste of the coffee. Out of over 224 reviews, I only found 27 that mentioned any negative points about the flavor. That's a pretty small percentage, if you ask me. So, while it may not be the best coffee you've ever had, it's certainly not the worst either.

How To Clean this BUNN Coffee Maker

Overall Scored of this feature100%

I have to say, it's not exactly a breeze. In fact, it's a bit more of a hassle than cleaning your average coffee maker. For one, you need to empty out the tank, which can be a bit of a chore. And then, you need to clean the tank itself, which takes even more time.

But, one thing I did learn is that it's really important to descale the machine every few months. If you don't, you'll start to notice that the taste of the coffee really suffers. I mean, it's not like it's undrinkable or anything, but it's definitely not as good as it could be. So, to avoid that, I made sure to descale the machine regularly.

The good news is that descaling is actually pretty easy. All I had to do was mix some white vinegar with water in the tank, let it sit for a couple of hours, and then run a brew cycle to rinse it out. And that's it! It's a simple process, but it makes a big difference in the taste of the coffee.

I also noticed that the machine comes with a deliming tool, which is specifically designed for cleaning the spray head tube. So, between the descaling and the deliming tool, I felt like I had all the cleaning bases covered. It's not the most fun task in the world, but it's definitely worth it to keep the machine running smoothly and the coffee tasting great.

Final Verdict

Overall, I found the BUNN BX Speed Brew to be a pretty good coffee machine, especially if you’re someone who’s often in a rush. Its ability to brew coffee in just a few minutes is definitely a big plus. It’s a reliable option for those who need their coffee quickly without sacrificing too much on quality.

However, if you’re looking for something more high-end or with more features, you might want to consider other options, like the Ninja CFN601 Espresso & Coffee Barista System. That machine offers more versatility and a more premium experience, which might be what you’re after.

I hope you enjoyed my review! If you’ve tried this model before, I’d love to hear about your experience. Did you like it? Was it a good fit for your coffee needs? Let me know in the comments!
